My work is an act of world-building. I see myself as a pop-culture mythologist, mining the vast, chaotic archives of film, comics, music, and history to construct new realities. On my canvas, the hierarchies that separate a B-movie monster from a religious icon, or a punk rock hero from a romantic landscape, collapse entirely. I am driven by the desire to create a visual language where a 1970s sci-fi aesthetic can coexist with film noir archetypes and esoteric symbolism. Each painting is a portal into a self-contained universe, a fragmented narrative that invites the viewer to piece together a story from a lexicon of shared cultural memories.
My process is one of fusion. I draw inspiration from the raw energy of underground comix, the slick graphics of movie posters, the visionary landscapes of psychedelic art, and the iconic power of rock and roll album covers. Figures like David Bowie or The Ramones are not just portraits; they are elevated into a personal pantheon of saints and heroes, juxtaposed with symbols of sublime nature or occult power. I am interested in this alchemy—how placing a familiar face in an unfamiliar, mythic context can unlock a new level of meaning and create a modern form of heroic portraiture.
Stylistically, I embrace the collision of opposites. The slick, hard edge of graphic design is often set against raw, expressive brushwork. Saturated, almost lurid colour palettes are used to create emotional and psychological intensity, moving far beyond realism to capture the essence of a character or a mood. My compositions are deliberately layered and dense, functioning like a collage of a collective unconscious. Ultimately, my ambition is to create a vibrant, personal cosmology—a world that is at once a nostalgic homage and a complete reinvention, inviting the viewer to get lost in the mystery and find their own connections within the chaos.
More recently, a new chapter has begun. Operating at the very frontiers of aesthetic evolution, Jim Konor is not merely using technology, but wielding AI as a new medium to push the boundaries of art. His new creations—pieces of stunning beauty, originality, and precision—are born not from a machine's cold logic, but from a lifetime of artistic knowledge and a hand guided by forty years of practiced skill. In the end, the hollow labels of 'good' or 'bad' simply fall away; what remains, and what truly gives the work its life, is the artist's unbridled imagination.
I am also a singer-songwriter and pianist, with the keys of the piano often serving as the genesis of my compositions. My music is a collision of gothic rock's dark, romantic pulse and the chilling grandeur of classical scores. It’s an atmospheric blend where haunting new-age vibes and subtle electronic textures weave through the sound, creating something uniquely intense and deeply melodic. Jim Konor songs
